random inspiration

Oh wow. I took my 11 year old with me today
to go see the Veranda House in Brentwood.
Speechless. I almost died of inspiration and
house envy. This is a showstopper folks so if
you are in the area, go and see this ASAP.
I ran into Mr. Martyn Bullard there...is it
scary that my daughter recognized him before me?
Later we had a lovely lunch at the Brentwood mart
and sat next to Rachel Ashwell (shabby chic)
I had to explain to my daughter who she was.
It was a designer day. When we got home she
asked if we can re-do her room. I don't know
if I was insulted or proud that she was full of
design inspiration.

This is the humble entrance to the Veranda house.
My lovely friend Paul Robbins worked on all
of the exterior landscaping though you can't see it
in this picture. It was breathtaking. I am guessing
the house was about 8000 sq. feet, though you can't tell
from the front. The house sits on a corner lot and there
is a huge grassy backyard with a little horse stable in
the back which was designed by Kathryn Ireland.
The stable was a little girls dream room. My daughter
just stood there and stared dreaming that it was her
little barn. There were horses at the house next door
neighbors house that probably had barn envy.
It was dreamy...there is a picture below, though once again
I was not allowed to take pictures though I snuck one in for
my horse loving daughter.

the sitting room of the horse barn below.

I think the house will unveil in the September
issue of Veranda. Windsor Smith is one
talented chic. oh yea, before we left we asked
how much the house was....10 million, in case
any of you are in the market for a new house ;)

the picture above was left over from my
Tim Burton post. I forgot to add this one in
and it was one of my favorites...especially
since I have an almost teenager...
Its called "Teenager, an awkward period of
life."

sign that summer is here...love this

picked up these umbrellas from crate and barrel.
now that the heat is finally here they sure come in
handy. My old ones from India all fell apart...it was
time to part with them.

  1. So excited to have discovered your blog. Been a fan since Cottage Living and I still have a copy (albeit very worn) of when your home was first featured.

  2. Hi Tia! Do you mind sharing what kind of ivy is growing /climbing over and around your pool house? It has filled in quite lovely since it was first featured in Cottage Living many moons ago.

  3. hi! thank you for visiting my blog! The ivy that is growing EVERYWHERE is boston ivy. There is also some creeping fig growing too but during the summer the ivy covers most of it.
it is really aggressive and fast growing, it clings to everything. the only downfall is that it sheds it's leaves for about 5 months out of the year so then you see the brown bare vines. thanks for stopping by!
